Earlier this year, my family and I went on a dream vacation to a small Caribbean island called Turks and Caicos. We had heard from others who had been there that the place was amazing. So after two years of saving and planning we went. Bottom line, the place was everything we had heard and more. It was absolutely beautiful, with crystal clear water, plenty of things to do, and excellent service. However, there was one part of our experience that stood out as a BIG negative. This one thing was noticed by me and almost every other guest many times throughout the day. It never changed, except each day we were there, it grew more and more frustrating.
This one big negative was poor WiFi service. Sometimes, simply accessing the internet was not possible, and checking email was always a time intensive chore. Any email that had an attachment of any size would not download. Worse yet, I wanted to email some friends and family pictures of the pool bar, and the kids having fun, but again I was disappointed due to poor WiFi. For seven days, I felt virtually cut off from the rest of the world. This wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing, if it had been by choice. But I wanted to connect periodically, if not for anything else than checking out the news while I had a morning coffee by the beautiful Caribbean sea.
When it comes time to plan my next vacation, the problems I experienced at this resort will factor into my decision about where to stay.
The WiFi system of the resort was not ready for technology already here, but what about technology that is on the horizon like 802.11ax (wireless), 802,3bt (PoE 60W/100W), or even 802.3bz (2.5G/5.0G)? This emerging technology will demand even more from our network infrastructure. It has to because we are all demanding more Bandwidth, more Power (PoE), and faster Wireless.
It is our mission to help our customers be successful. We do this by providing our customers with all the information they need to make the best choice for them and their future network needs. It’s not about how great our cabling products are (BTW – they really are great), rather, it’s about how we can help you be successful. This is ultimately why we launched our Everything IP platform last year, and now, we are launching our Enhanced Everything IP platform. We have developed a lot more technical content as well as added some new product enhancements too. The platform is designed to provide you with everything you need to know about emerging technologies under development to support future Bandwidth, Power, and Wireless demand.
